I ve never seen manufacturer instructions that recommend prewashing a shirt or other apparel before pressing it. The harsh temperature and chemicals that are used during dry. Coatings as mentioned earlier cause complications with htv. The adhesive on heat transfer vinyl is activated by heat. You can work around this by doing away with pre washing your garments or at least don t use a fabric softener when doing so. First check your manufacturer s specifications this applies to the transfer and substrate.

A pre press removes wrinkles and lingering moisture in the shirt so it can create a better bond with the adhesive on the heat transfer vinyl. If you are working with htv we recommend washing your shirts inside out with cold water and drying on low. Manufacturers don t recommend it.
